For some it’s taboo, for Lindsey Vestal it’s a typical Tuesday. Pelvic health, incontinence, sex and pelvic pain are topics all too familiar. The pelvic health space is an area Lindsey knew she wanted to step into before she even started OT school. What drew her to OT, was the holistic lens she could provide to people with pelvic issues. Lindsey seeks to find out what matters most to her clients, not what’s the matter with them. She does things a little differently to most professionals and doesn’t identify herself as the ‘expert’. She helps her clients to re-connect to their body wisdom and helps them to feel empowered through education and self-advocacy skills.
In this episode we dive into what pelvic health is, the three main roles of the pelvic floor muscles, OTs role in pelvic health (and how we differ from physical therapists), types of pelvic health assessments, interventions, advice for OTs wanting to step into this space and how we can promote OT in this evolving practice area. You’re gonna love it! x
