What an absolute honour and privilege it is to be speaking with the legendary OT, Professor Winnie Dunn. Winnie is a true visionary in the world of OT whose life long commitment to learning has propelled our profession forward.
Winnie is an internationally known expert for her studies on sensory processing in everyday life. She has published more than 100 research articles, book chapters, and books and has spoken around the globe shedding light on sensory processing. She is the author of the Sensory Profile Measure and the book – Living Sensationally: Understanding Your Senses.
Winnie explains how sensory processing is the thing that guides how we organise our day, why we make the decisions to do and helps us to develop competency. She describes the four sensory patterns and how sensory processing is the material out of which we create our lives.
We dive into and pull apart one of my favourite Winnie quotes (although I have many): “Sensory processing patterns are reflections of who we are: these patterns are not a pathology that needs fixing. Intervention addresses the interference between our desired life and our current performance; sensory processing knowledge can narrow this gap and reduce interference, thereby affording a satisfying life.” ….and SO MUCH MORE.
She’s an absolute legend. Strap in, I know you will love this one.
